The Great W H Ogilvie (1869-1963)

The great W H Ogilvie was more than one of note
The man from Kelso in Scotland who spent twelve years in Australia Became a legendary poet
His book of poems 'Fair Girls and Gray Horses' made his a celebrated name
His poems by decades have outlived him a testament to his fame.

He died in his early nineties and in his seventy plus years writing span
He penned thousands of poems and ballads the legendary Scottish man
In Australia he worked as a drover and horsebreaker he was a horseman supreme
Where for his renowned ballads of outback life he was held in high esteem.

The great William Henry Ogilvie is remembered today
As a poet who lived his verses and of him 'twould be fair to say
That he was very lyrical and he penned beautiful rhyme
And he deserves to be rated with the best poets of his time.

I love the poems of Ogilvie Nature and Life they celebrate
He was a natural wordsmith a true poetic great
To the poetic greats of his era he surely does belong
His poems have music in them he was a prince of song.
