Whatever Your Status

Whatever your status or whatever your name
Your journey through life for you must end much the same
As the homeless pauper with sore and blistered feet
From walking the sidewalks of Poverty Street.

You will be free of ego and of any care
And of your image in marble on your marble gravestone you will not be aware
You are a mere mortal why otherwise pretend
Your money cannot buy you the Reaper as a friend.

How influential and wealthy you are doesn't matter at all
Like the big tree of the forest to the Reaper you will fall
Like all other mortals you are born to die
That is a fact of life and facts never lie.

You are the most admired person in your town
To be wealthy and famous your great claim to renown
But your date with the Reaper you too have to keep
The one who claims the life's breath from the cow and the sheep.
