The very enlightened 'twould seem are quite rare
And of our own shortcomings few of us aware
The flaws in others I can readily see
But I dislike in them what I dislike in me
Our negative thinking comes from low self esteem
And those we choose to dislike are our equals 'twould seem
Above what is ordinary few ever can seem to rise
And though everyone grows older few grow to be wise
The very enlightened one does not often meet
Perhaps you won't find one on every street
Even our own self few of us ever get to know
Which prompts me to wonder why this should be so
If you cannot respect yourself to others respect you cannot pay
But we are what we are as some are known to say.
