'Tis said of politicians that they find it hard to tell the truth
And that they lack in compassion and in empathy and ruth
To cling to power if they can that is their life's desire
And many other professionals seem easier than them to admire
No doubt there are honest politicians but such are becoming rare
But that they do not last that long in politics one can only feel aware
They cannot live with the ambiguity and deceit they must live with every day
So they feel 'tis the right thing for them to give politics away
Most politicians answer an honest question with a question of their own
For their ambiguity and cunning many of them are well known
In the dirty game of politics only the most hardened do seem to thrive
Where the honest and the honourable have to struggle to survive
'Tis said of politicians their own self gain they pursue
And about the majority of them this does obviously seem true.
