Where to speak one's mind is looked on as a crime
Many good people are serving prison time
Against such oppressive regimes only the bravest speak out
Their courage and morality is never in doubt.

Many such people who speak out against Governments who are lacking in ruth
Are locked up in prison or else have been executed for speaking the truth
The pathway to a fair go for others they try to pave
But their price is huge to pay for being honourable and brave.

It takes a supremely courageous person for to make such a stand
Against the Government of a Country where free speech is banned
They speak out without flinching against those who rule by fear
Stories of their bravery inspiring to read of and hear.

It takes a truly noble person one whose heart rules the head
To speak out against oppression at the gateway of dread
Such an act of extreme bravery is an admirable thing
And the praises of such people we should feel happy to sing.
