A wise one told me about the ego he told me one without ego death does not fear
What he said one might say has me thinking and though my thougts on the matter not clear
For his words in fact do seem quite truthful such insightful knowledge seems rare
He does seem to know about ego and of it's workings he does seem aware
So wise for one in life's early forties of ego I feel he is right
He spoke with the wisdom of an old sage he is blessed with the gift of insight
He said 'tis the ego that fears death though with him I did disagree
I realize now that he is right one far more enlightened than me
Some of the side effects of a big ego are pride arrogance and self conceit
The known flaws of the egotistical and such a criteria I feel I do meet
The ego as well as being in love with self loves recognition and the ego loves money and fame
The ego the source of narcissism does cringe at the feelings of shame
And the ego it can be quite fearful and it does fear death most of all
And the wise words of that very wise fellow for as long as I live I'll recall.
