An August Morning In The Suburbs

Despite the coldness in the wintery showers
The flowering gum she wears her bright red flowers
Stormwater gurgling in the roadside drain
And rainbow lories chirping in the rain
Mid August two weeks from the southern calendar Spring
The ways of Nature an amazing thing
The Aussie magpies build their stick nest high on tree
And the male bird pipes to proclaim his territory
Of Nature little I can claim to know
To her kingdom her Seasons come and go
The pittosporum in her flowers of a pale gray
A thing of beauty on a Winter's day
Up and down the highway cars and trucks buzz to and fro
And the chilly winds of late Winter do blow.
