I had this great dream that I was a poet
A man seen as worthy of literary note
A winner of many a literary prize
My success to me even quite a surprise
The fellow from Claraghatlea near Millstreet Town
Had become a figure of literary renown
In my chosen field I'd become a great name
And I was enjoying the fruits of my literary fame
At last recognized as one who could write
Verses others felt happy for to recite
But then I awoke to find it was a dream
Though real and so wonderful it all did seem
The magpie larks they were singing out pee wee
And the magpies were piping in the park by the sea.
