On Nicholas And Margaret's Sixtieth

Nicholas and Margaret Tarrant they've shared a lot in life
For sixty years together they've lived as man and wife
In this the age of one night stands by example they lead
People like them nowadays are rare and more of their type we need.

They lived at Gortavehy and I've known them since I was a boy
Thousands of miles from where I now live north as the crow might fly
At fund raisers they played cards together of partners 45
Their shared interests a reason that their marriage did survive.

Where they lived at Gortavehy not far from the mountain lake
The brown skylark flew upwards above the high fields at daybreak
And upwards towards the cloud world he carolled in the sky
In the gray dawn of the morning he sung as he did fly.

Nicholas and Margaret now live in Ballincollig some thirty miles or more
From the peaks of Caherbarnagh between Millstreet and Rathmore
They've been through a lot together and to their wedding vows they've remained true
Since the day that they were married back in nineteen forty two.

About Nicholas and Margaret there is so much to admire
And the story of their sixty years together is a story to inspire
Still devoted to each other they've been soul mates since their prime
And their marriage still rock solid has survived the test of time.
