At forty Ian Milne may seem a bit old for surfing but I've been told that he is very brave
And at the surf beaches of Inverloch and Cape Paterson he revels at the challenge of riding the giant wave
He still holds his own with fellows half of his age there's no substitute for experience they say
He'll still be surfing well into his sixties and suppose he'll never give the game away.
Ian Milne is easy going and level headed and he is one who does have a good brain
And he is down to earth and unassuming and in any way not arrogant or vain
And he will always be a coastal person he will always live where the land meets the sea
Devoted to his partner Jackie and his children his life revolves around his family.
He's one of those a truly coastal person who never could live distant from the sea
And his type unlike the rugged outback machos not renowned in Australian literary history
The coastal fellow loves to ride the big wave, the outback horse breaker the wild brumby ride and tame
Why does the latter receive such recognition and why is the former a stranger to fame?
Ian Milne will always be a coastal fellow he could not live distant from the ocean shore
He is one of those who loves to ride the big waves when the sea is angry and the breakers roar
And I've been told he can still surf as good as any though he is now beyond his surfing prime
But suppose he'll still be surfing in his sixties for he is one who won't bow to father time
