I Like The English

The invaders had bigger army and better guns
And Irish mothers left to weep for murdered sons
I like the English people as a race
But what some of their ancestors did in Ireland a disgrace.

The monarch appointed Cromwell as lord protector of Ireland
And how he won fame I'll never understand
He evicted the poor and burnt their hovels down
Is such a person worthy of renown?.

To hell or else to Connacht was his cry
And the only roof they had the open sky
And the very young and the infirm and old
Were left to perish in the winter cold.

The name of Hitler is a loathed name
And what he did to the Gipsies and the Jews is German shame
But Cromwell to the Irish did the same
And his actions only won him more acclaim.

In Ireland he was both hated and feared
Whilst in England he was lauded and revered
But none more brutal than him history has seen
And his crimes were for the crown and for the queen.

From Cromwell's time up to days of Black and Tan
The English warlords for Ireland had one plan
And that was to exterminate the Irish as a race
And plant the seed of England in their place.

I like the English some of them are great
And against them I could not discriminate
But some of their ancestors in Ireland left a trail of shame
And their deeds were only worthy of ill fame.
