A little bunch of shamrock to wear on Patrick's Day
Dug from a field in Ireland thousands of miles away
Sent to her by her mother a sprig of Irish green
On St Patrick's day in Melbourne her colours will be seen.
Perhaps in pub at Clifton Hill her Aussie friends will say
Is that an Irish clover you've got there on display
And she'll say it's name's not clover and it has a greater fame
The symbol of my country and shamrock is it's name.
Dug from a field in Ireland as march winds blew severe
And flown out to Australia for one day of the year
The emblem of a country, the subject of the poet
About the Irish shamrock great stories have been wrote.
On March the seventeenth at Clifton Hill the Irish can be seen
They wear St Patrick's colours and the beer they drink is green
And a bunch of shamrock pinned to her coat a gift from far away
It's the emblem of my country that's what she proudly say.
