I've Never

I've never fought in war put my life on the line
Perhaps that's why I live to sing for Auld Lang Syne
Perhaps that's why I live to see another year
But as the days go by the reaper's lurking near.

I've never been good at sports of such I cannot boast
And people to honour me have never drunk a toast
Yet the finest of athletes who have won Olympic Gold
Too lose their zest for life as they grow tired and old.

I've never climbed Everest or walked upon the moon
But perhaps the glory for all fade too soon
And though the stream forever down land flow
As years go by the people come and go.

And though I have not scaled the high hill of success
I too pursue the thing called happiness
And though the years have left me looking gray
I feel that the good times are not far away.
