The Great Literary Years of Sliabh Luachra

The great literary years of Sliabh Luachra forever may be gone
But the old bards of Sliabh Luachra their poems are living on
O Rathaille and O Suilleabhain in death their legends grow
You know little about poetry if of them you do not know.

The Dinneen brothers Patrick and Joseph were men of literary note
The former a poet and lexiographer the latter a renowned poet
Still spoken of with reverence in the Paps countryside
From the Cork and Kerry border they are known far and wide.

The last bard of Sliabh Luachra Ned Buckley of Knocknagree
His poems they have outlived him few were as great as he
He was a natural wordsmith born with the gift of rhyme
And his poems have stood the greatest test the mighty test of time.

The great literary years of Sliabh Luachra are now a memory
The bards at rest forever survived by their poetry
Their poems are still recited of greatness they've passed the test
The old bards of Sliabh Luachra are equal to the best.
