In my youth a man i often did see
And one who lives in my memory
He always seemed very carefree
George Tarrant of Moher in Derrinagree.
A powerfully built barrel chested man
Of life he enjoyed a long span
He worked for the Cork County Council for years
His friends and relations farewelled him in tears.
He was in the tarring of many a Duhallow roadway
For him never an easy pay
Seldom without a smile on his face
He will be missed from his homeplace.
He lived on to be old and gray
And at peace now forever he lay
That great character i used to know
Going back a few decades ago.
