Brown Nugget And I

The gray butcherbird sings at the dawn of the day
In Baxters Parkland by the sea far away
I fancy I hear him on an acacia tree
A mile from Wonthaggi and two miles from the sea.

With Laz and Heather's brown kelpie Nugget in happy days gone by
A walk down Baxters track a thing to enjoy
I wonder does she still think of me today
So happy and playful in her carefree way.

On the lake the cries of the coots and the moorhens so wild and so shrill
And through the knee high bracken the roos bound up the hill
Good memories a whole lifetime with us remain
And in fancy I'm walking in Baxters again.

Though few things in life ever do seem to last
We live in the now and we recall the past
The dark welcome swallows they chirp as they fly
As we walk on Baxters track brown Nugget and I.
