Since a chaffinch can't sing like a blackbird they were born with a different song
I never can become an Aussie my lingo for that is all wrong
Some ask for how long have you lived in Australia your accent it does seem so strong
And when I say I've lived here for two decades they say is it really that long?
My problems are I am not Patriotic nor I do not worship a God
And many find it hard to pigeon hole me to them I must seem rather odd
I do not wear the Irish colours not even on St Patrick's day
And it's been longer than I care to remember since I've been to church on a Sunday.
My God she is out there in Nature I've said that so often before
I've loved her since I was a young boy when I lived by the road to Rathmore
I remember the wren in the hedgerow through the Spring he sang all day long
For such a wee and plain brown fellow he sang a loud beautiful song.
I am not into patriotism or religion or sport doesn't interest me at all
And I'm never mistook for an Aussie since I do not have the Aussie drawl
I will always have great love for Ireland that should not be hard to understand
And though I never can become an Aussie I do love this Southern Land.
