On The Passing Of John McAuliffe

Our condolences to his grandchildren and children Mary and John and to Elizabeth his wife
John McAuliffe has surrendered his great gift of life
In life to his wife and family devoted and to many a good friend
But good memories of him will live though his life it did end.

Another great person gone from Annagloor
And for his passing Millstreet Parish does seem far more poor
But to the scythe of the reaper we are destined for to fall
There is a last day and last night for us all.

On a day in late November cold enough to snow
I last spoke to John McAuliffe twenty one years ago
Brown flood waters were gurgling in the roadside drain
I never thought then I'd never meet him again.

In life helpful and kindhearted he was a good man
And compared to some he enjoyed a lengthy life time span
The last of the Meens McAuliffes has lived his last day
And in old St Mary's his last remains lay.
