The World looks on as they cry for help but too few seem to care
And what's happening in East Timor now can happen anywhere
Pity the women and children and those in their twilight years
An old prayer I remember spoke of this 'vale of tears'
You give a coward a firearm and he will feel empowered
He shoot and kill the innocents but he is still a coward
And the Indonesian military and militia are cowards one and all
In years from now they won't have any great deeds to recall.
You give a coward a firearm and by fear he will rule
For with his new found sense of power he can be very cruel
Without the gun he is a coward he cower and run away
And there are quite a lot of cowards around this World today.
Wiranto and Habibie should hang their heads in shame
These men known to be leaders are leaders just in name
By their own code of silence the killings they condone
The poor souls of East Timor in their sufferings are alone.
You give a coward a firearm and his bullets he won't save
He will shoot at the defenceless and suddenly feel brave
But take the firearm off him and he will run away
And the outcast of tomorrow is the terrorist of today.
