A thousand poems at least worthy of note
Have been written by the old bard 'Jack the Poet'
And since they dismiss his verse as doggerel
His words for the literary critics 'go to hell'
He might have known fame in another time
For ninety per cent of his verses rhyme
And a century back he well might have been great
But everything has got it's use by date.
Three score and twelve years he knows about life
Years back to a wealthier younger man he lost his wife
Lisa once loved Jack but Jack was always poor
And there's more to life than love and that's for sure.
Despite his years he still has dreams of fame
That his will be a legendary name
And when he dies his verses will live on
And that he won't be forgotten when he's gone.
All people of all races much the same
In that they would prefer glory to shame
The lust for fame a universal thing
Who would rather be a pauper than a king?
And old Jack the poet too has his dreams of fame
That one day he will receive great acclaim
And in the Literary World he will be one of note
And that people will say this man was a poet.
