I left my heart or did my heart leave me
Off Pleasant Street by Lake of Wendouree
Where I whiled hours of leisure time away
Just sitting in the shade on sunny sunday.
Just watching water birds swim to and fro
The Australian black swan big star of the show
On land he seem quite clumsy out of place
But on water he looks princely bird of grace.
The little coot he never ceases to surprise
A cheeky little fellow for his size
Along the water surface he flap his wings and run
And dive and bob and life for him much fun.
And musk duck the eccentric of the lake
The type of bird one never can mistake
With rubbery looking fleshy piece of skin
Hanging loosely from his double chin.
And Australian black duck timid and so shy
He doesn't trust me eyes me with wary eye
And though of man he's lost most natural fear
He still manages to keep safe distance clear.
And silver gull far from his home the sea
The feathered glutton of Lake Wendouree
Like hungry beggar always craving food
And for one his size quite arrogant and rude.
Oh I left my heart or did my heart leave me
By Wendouree neath bough of shady tree
In Ballarat Town so many miles away
Just watching water birds on sunny day.
