Shades Of Autumn Time

The flowering gums a blaze of crimson flowers
And old March will soon give way to April hours
And elm once so green now wear some brown
And one by one her leaves start floating down
To Mother Earth who take back what she give
A leaf has but a few short months to live.

Today it made some heavy showers of rain
And the forecast for tomorrow showers again
And on the tall gum trees across the way
The currawong been singing all the day
He always sing his song when rain is near
And you always hear him at this time of year.

The kookaburras laugh in harmony
And they live together as a family
And when kookaburra laugh the old man say
That rain can never be too far away
And Autumn winds blow with a touch of chill
Down through Kallista down from Sherbrooke hill.

Some heavy showers up to and at mid day
And old March to April soon has to give way
And pied currawong on the high gum tree call
As elm lose her beauty to the Fall
And flowering gum now in her beauty's prime
Blends in well with the shades of Autumn time.
