The Ache Of Unrequited Love

On bended knees he asked her to marry him a decade ago
But for marriage she was not ready her answer to him was no
When in truth she did not love him and with him she did not stay
And though now married with children to his second choice he thinks of her today

Where she lives at the present he does not have a clue
But he will always truly love her though to him she was not true
One can hardly say 'twas a love affair if love was only one way
The price of unrequited love in heartache huge to pay.

The one who is his second choice now his devoted wife
Just goes to show what we desire most we seldom get in life
He is in his thirty second year a few years past his prime
But he still loves her in his heart and he thinks of her from time to time.

With a lovely son and daughter of seven and six and a beautiful wife of twenty nine
And a recent job promotion one would think life with him would be fine
But he once fell deeply in love with one he may never see again
And the ache of unrequited love in his heart does remain.
