For As Long As I Can

I've lived for sixty one years in time quite a span
And i reside far from where my life's journey began
I have never been known as a succesful man
But i want to live on for as long as i can.

I no longer daydream of literary fame
And mine won't live on as a remembered name
I don't care if my life story will not be told
But i want to live on for to grow very old.

To the great gift of life i raise my glass of cheer
But of the scythe of the Reaper i do live in fear
But to his higher self Mr Death he is true
He is an egalatarian to give him his due.

I am a great coward of that fact i won't lie
And it scares me to think that i too have to die
And i hope to live on though i have seen many a Spring
For the great gift of life is a wonderful thing.
