On Poles On Clara

The Clara I used to love so well it never more will look the same
The E S B putting cables suspended on poles upon it that does seem a terrible shame
I used to climb to the wooden cross and later the steel on it's summit going back a few decades ago
Men under the disguise of progress changing the look of a landscape that I used to know.

And little can be done about it though the Locals they may have their say
The E S B is a huge corporation and usually they get their way
Even in my youth I saw things of great beauty without one thought for nature destroyed
The County Council bulldozed roadside hedges and groves for road widening leaving small birds and animals with nowhere to hide.

From larger birds and animals that prey on them habitat destruction is such a vile thing
In the old grove by the stream by my old home the wild birds did whistle and sing
But the Council they bulldozed the old grove and great beauty lost forever more
For to widen the roadway to Kerry the old trees from their roots were tore

And natural beauty that is interfered with can never be restored again
And only the memories of what was with us till our own end will remain
With E S B poles and pylons the countryside pockmarked for progress a huge price to pay.
And of what was and never more can be the memories with us only stay.

Poles with cables to be erected on Clara goodbye to the beautiful view
Of the very first hill that I climbed on the old hill I loved and I knew
And all of this in the name of progress but to me can someone explain
Why Nature's beauty has to suffer for progress's very small gain?
