Tonight people will welcome the New Year in Countries from here far and near
And there will be much celebrating at the birth of another New Year
At midnight the bands will be playing and the fireworks will light up the sky
And strangers on the street will be hugging and dancing and singing and the buntings and balloons will fly
And Kate will hug Mary and David and Bill will hug Ella and Joe
And New Year greetings will be ringing on the crowded street to and fro
Amongst family and friends and strangers and in pubs and clubs sing song and beer
On a night of great celebration and on a night of dancing and cheer
On a night of goodwill and laughter though a few with a bit too much to drink
Become a bit over aggressive and wake hung over in the clink
Another New Year is upon us and time is ever on the tick
Our biological clocks on the hurry the weeks and months pass all too quick
Don't overdo it on the alcohol and enjoy your beer, whiskey and wine
And may joy and good fortune be with you through the days of two thousand and nine.
