She lives with her husband and their young son and daughter in Brisbane the brown eyed one with hair of dark brown
Far north of her old home in South West Gippsland the young woman from Wonthaggi Town
She often thinks of the old coastal country glorified in poetry and song
With links to the historical Dreamtime and the tribe known as the Bunurong.
Cape Paterson, Inverloch and Kilcunda are places she often think about
Where as a school-girl she swam with her friends in Summer in warm weather in the deep south
Her first great love still in Wonthaggi some times love does not last for life
They parted back in the mid nineties she now is a Brisbane man's wife.
She won't be going back for to live in Wonthaggi though maybe for a holiday
Though her mum and dad they still live there she is in Queensland for to stay
The Brisbane Winters are much milder she likes the subtropical clime
For a while she felt a bit homesick but nostalgia's best healer is time.
A young woman from old Wonthaggi but her future is in Brisbane 'twould appear
She likes the subtropical climate down south the Winters more severe
Still she often thinks of Wonthaggi and her happy times when she lived there
And she recalls the song of the shrike thrush he piped such a beautiful air.
