Johnny Keeffe

Long before he met Lena the love of his life
The woman who became his devoted wife
He led Cork and Millstreet in the field of play
A famed Gaelic Footballer in his prime day.

A credit to his Parish and the pride of his Clan
More than a good footballer he is a good man
A very fine Sportsman and a man amongst men
Johnny Keeffe he led Millstreet to their County win.

To the Gaelic football Hall of Famers he surely belong
And perhaps now into his seventies but still going strong
A humble man who in his prime knew renown
And a great role model to the young of Millstreet Town.

And though the recipient of many a toast
Of his glory days you will not hear him boast
'Tis true what they say that quiet waters run deep
His actions speak for him since talk is so cheap.

He and his wife Lena held in high regard
On behalf of Millstreet Tidy Town Committee they both work so hard
Good friends of their environment one well might say
They volunteer their services and don't ask for pay.

In his prime Johnny Keeffe was the Pride of Millstreet
And he laughed loud in victory and he smiled in defeat
On and off of the field a gentleman complete
And people like him every day one doesn't meet.
