On Reading Poems Of John Betjeman

Verse that rhyme was supposed extinct it had gone the way of time
Till along came the Poet Laureate who rejuvenated rhyme
He breathed new life into poetry in a style he made his own
And without his name to it one still could tell a John Betjeman poem.

If you are a fan of Betjeman in his fan club you remain
You will take his book from book shelf and re-read his verse again
You will read his witty verses and then put his book away
And re-read them and enjoy them when the time is your's one day.

Some may say his rhymes are simple and his verses race along
But the man had natural talent he was born with 'gift of song'
His verse show freshness and has humour and originality
And he's rejuvenated rhyme verse in the twentieth century.

He is with the dead of England but his verse keep living on
And the poet is stilll remembered though the poet is dead and gone
He wrote of the ordinary people English town and countryside
And his fans still in the many and his poems known far and wide.
