The Stony Hill Of Mt Rouse

The stony hill of Mt Rouse in it's Autumn shades of brown
Stands quietly overlooking the streets of Penshurst Town
From the old hill by Australia's first people referred to as Kolor many centuries ago
Red hot lava like a burning river down it's stony face did flow
The First Australians living in the foothills must have watched on in awe
And they must have felt quite frightened and amazed at what they saw
The volcanic hills of the Southern Grampians are very old in time
Their rugged beauty have inspired the artists and inspired the bards to rhyme
In the age of the dinosaurs they were very very old
And since they predate human history their history by humans cannot be told
Mt Rouse home for the swamp wallaby and the gray kangaroo
And European hare and rabbit and yellow tail black cockatoo
And above the volcanic mountain the great wedge tail eagle fly
A rare look at Nature's beauty soaring in the calm clear sky.
