Perhaps I'd Feel A Stranger

Perhaps I'd feel a stranger now in Millstreet Parish and Town
Where old Clara with the bracken face is ever looking down
On the green Duhallow countryside that stretches for miles around
And the wildflowers bloom in the old fields in Spring on the higher ground
Perhaps the changes have been happening there since I left for a distant shore
A stranger in Ballydaly on the roadway to Rathmore,
A stranger in Annagloor and Claraghatlea which is my old home place
Where just a few decades ago mine was a well known face
The wanderlust was in me my future was to be elsewhere
I left my home near Millstreet Town for the bigger World out there
Across the windswept countryside the wintery winds did blow
And Clara on the higher ground wore his December hat of snow
Far south of Clara Mountain the years have left me gray
And I would feel a stranger west of Millstreet Town today.
