The Price Of Progress

In the town where there are as many cars as people
On the main street the cars and trucks pass up and down all day
The factory chimneys keep billowing up dark gray smoke
And pollute the sky with smog a dusky gray.

With it industry always brings pollution
In the contamination of the waterways and air
Such is the price we have to pay for progress
To our Earth Mother we have not been fair.

Environmentalists claim that in our polluting of our environment
That we have only sped up climate change
And though many with that well may beg to differ
In any way such thinking is not strange.

Such is the price we have to pay for progress
Climate change and global warming has invaded every shore
We well may bring about our own extinction
Though Nature she will live forever more.
