Sliabh Luachra Bards

The bards of old Sliabh Luachra their fame is forever young
Their poems still read and recited and I recall when I was young
Around the fireplace on winter nights old men stories to us told
Sliabh Luachra's literary history from ancestral times of old.

Stories of Egan O Rahilly and Owen Roe O Sullivan Gaelic bards of renown
In their time they were famous in every Irish town
Literary translators their poetry into English did translate
The true bards as we know too well are never out of date.

Sliabh Luachra on the Cork and Kerry border is now known Worldwide
Some renowned literary people were from that countryside
Patrick Dinneen the lexiographer and his famous poetic brother Joe
Kept Sliabh Luachra on the literary map their legends in death grow.

The last great bard of Sliabh Luachra was Ned Buckley of Knocknagree
His fame today is living in his memorable poetry
The bards of old Sliabh Luachra at peace forever lay
And through their legacy to literature we remember them today.
