From the look out point on Mt Eccles you look down upon Lake Surprise
A green lake in a volcanic valley above it on either side volcanic cliffs rise
In one of the volcanic parts of the Southern Grampians volcanoes that were active many centuries ago
On the stony face of Mt Eccles trees to a great height never grow,
Not many do visit Mt Eccles from the nearest big town remote
And little is written about it as it is not seen as a place worthy of note
And not known as a tourist attraction since from Suburbia 'tis too far away
But that only adds to it's mystique that only would be fair to say,
Down the volcanic tracks of Mt Eccles the red hot volcanic larva did flow
When those ancient volcanoes were active going back many centuries ago
The stony paddocks of the Southern Grampians of small volcanic rocks that did not reach the sea shore
From Mt Rouse and Mt Napier and Mt Eccles volcanic hills that may not erupt ever more
And on Mt Eccles in the Southern Grampians the magpie and shrike thrush pipe on Blackwood and wattle tree
In a place of great natural beauty surrounded by tranquility.
