When i was going to primary school in Millstreet John Cahill then was a middle aged man
He lived i would say till his early nineties in human years in time a lengthy span
He and his wife raised their children in Coolikerane a hard working man one of integrity
One of the good people i recall from my boyhood that i am never more destined to see,
John Cahill was a good and honest person when i first knew him he was past his prime
On looking back the years go by so quickly there is no holding back the hands of time
He will never more be seen along the bog road where he so often cycled up and down
But as in everywhere the changes keep on happening in Millstreet Parish and in Millstreet Town,
John Cahill never harmed anybody in fact in him there was a lot of good
The World was better for him living in it he was one who would help you if he could
So down to earth, gentle and unassuming for him living in it Millstreet a better place
But by those who knew him he won't be forgotten his will live on as a remembered face,
His family and friends are going to miss him and sad to think in the flesh he will not be seen again
But in the minds of those who knew and loved him fond memories of John Cahill will remain.
