Of late a huge change has come over Ted
'Twould seem his promotion has gone to his head
He no longer joins his ex mates for a beer
His new friends like him are social climbers 'twould appear.
To a better class of pub he now goes with his wife
And he now aims for greater things in life
His working class mates 'twould seem now of his past
But like they say few friendships ever last.
I know the men he drank with at the pub
Joe, Billy, Jim and John and Dick and Dub
Their silence on him their feelings betray
Of Ted they do not have a word to say.
They know that Ted now belong to their past
But like they say few friendships ever last
And Ted in life goes his own chosen way
His mates of last year are not his mates today.
Joe, Billy, John and Dick and Dub and Jim
Are now a fading memory of his past to him
If you gobble with the turkeys with the eagles you can't fly
Ted would agree as those words to him apply.
But at the pub life goes on just the same
They drink their beer and talk of last week's game
And Joe the balladeer sings an old song
But Ted not there with them to sing along.
