Germs

They are in our mouths and nostrils, they are in our eyes and hair
In our toilets and wash basins they live around us everywhere
In our hearts, kidneys, brains and intestines they work their way in there
And the damage they do to us doctors can't seem to repair.

Without the aid of a strong microscope them one could not hope to see
They live in the President and the Monarch and they live in you and me
They come in air and water and they bring with them disease
They are floating in the river and blowing in the breeze.

Medical science has waged war on them yet they cannot be destroyed
And because of them millions suffer and millions more have died
They make healthy bodies unhealthy and they thrive on decay
And they breed in sewers and grimy dark places where for years in dormancy they lay.

Germs kill animals and humans they do not discriminate
Between the house mouse and the Monarch they don't differentiate
They make the healthy grow unhealthy and on decay they seem to thrive
Though they die with the body they've infested death they too cannot survive.
