Jill and Joe in their late forties have been married for twenty years
Their only child John died when he was seven for them a time of grief and tears
Which left a huge hole in their lives they went through years of heart ache
But their great love for each other helped them get through the heartbreak.
In their time of grief love was their ally but things have changed between Jill and Joe
And since they last made love to each other it must be five or six years ago
The love has gone out of their marriage as do many an affair of the heart
And though they still live under the one roof in ways they have drifted apart.
Jill has found herself a new lover she met him at the bowling club
And Joe after work in the evenings he drinks with his mates in the pub
And they talk about sports, work and politics and in the grog they find their solace for care
And they seem to have much in common and so much in common they share.
Jill doesn't cook Joe his meals any longer and his best mate now is his dog Rose
A three year old desexed border collie, black with a band of white around her nose
Still he is not the only fellow who prefers his dog to his wife
And love seldom does last a life time and what can one say but that's life.
