Ted And Rover

He will be fifty nine on saturday and he will celebrate
His birthday at home in his flat with Rover dog his mate
For Rover he say his best friend your dog is always true
When those you thought loved you have left your dog will stick by you.

He got Rover as a two months old pup from man west side of town
He took him because the owner said he would have him put down
But he has a soft spot for dogs 'I'll have the pup he said'
And they have been together since the mongrel dog and Ted.

Non pedigree and shaggy looking and hardly choicely bred
He called him Rover just a name that came into his head
A bearded collie x blue heeler cross, a hairy little friend
More faithful to him than his ex wife a thorn to the end.

Since she left him eight years ago life for him has been better
And the only regret that he has is that he ever met her
He's heard that she has re-married and live north of the city
May God help her husband he say he is one I do pity.

On saturday he's fifty nine to the three score he's one nearer
And he say his best mate is his dog as a friend there is none dearer
And for his dog's love he doesn't pay big price just a can of dog food for dinner
And to Rover his master Ted will always be 'bread winner'.
