Rose from Bairnsdale lives and works in inner Melbourne
A four hour drive from her beloved Hometown
And from ground floor office from where she works in Collins Street
She hears the traffic passing up and down.
She hears the bustle of the busy city
The sounds of footsteps passing to and fro
You might say that her life has turned full cycle
Since she left Bairnsdale seven years ago.
She left east Gippsland when still a teenager
When she had only barely turned nineteen
To live and work in Victoria's biggest City
The furthest from her hometown she has been.
But still she miss her hometown in east Gippsland
I'm still a Bairnsdale girl at heart she say
She goes home once a month to see her parents
A four hour drive is not that far away.
Still she admits that she has done well in Melbourne
She owns a two bedroom flat on Spencer Street
And she says that she has lately found her soul mate
Young Joe from Brunswick makes her life complete.
The dark haired Rose from Bairnsdale doesn't have big dreams
To marry Joe would be her dream come true
To be a good wife and a devoted lover
And have a child with him or maybe two.
A four hour drive from her hometown of Bairnsdale
And now accustomed to the city life
Her dreams of happiness seem very modest
To be a mother and devoted wife.
