For years I'd known Bill Sullivan of Kilmeedy
Perhaps since I have been a five year old
In Millstreet he was both well known and well liked
As the saying goes he had a 'heart of gold'.
Around Millstreet he worked for various farmers
And he had to work hard for every pay
But Bill he liked hard work and he had good health
And he was seldom ever sick a day.
It's true that every person has a trademark
And Bill Sullivan's trademark's were his pipe and hat
Broad shouldered over six foot tall and sturdy
And on him there was not one ounce of fat.
A familiar figure in the Town of Millstreet
Smoking his pipe as he walked up and down
And you would not find one who did not know him
In Millstreet Parish or in Millstreet Town.
I have good memories of that happy fellow
He had the glow of warmth in his hello
And he was the heart and soul of old Kilmeedy
And one that I felt privileged to know.
He won't be seen again around Kilmeedy
Cycling on the mountain road by Clara hill
But he will be sadly missed by all who knew him
For who would wish to forget one like Bill.
