Away from the cooler southern climates old fellows and their old dears
Move up to the Gold Coast to spend their twilight years
To live out their existence by the Pacific sea
Where rainbow keets are chirping on every flowering tree.
The old pair from West Gippsland old Jack and Jane his wife
Have moved up to South Queensland for the better style of life
They sold their farm near Kooweerup the Winters there are cold
And bought a flat in Broadbeach as they are getting old.
And though Jane she likes the Gold Coast and the weather suits her fine
And she loves the loud sea beaches and the warm winds and sunshine
But Jack is very different and is sorry he did not stay
In Kooweerup in Gippsland down south and far away.
In Kooweerup in west Gippsland he spent his youth and prime
And eight years on the Gold Coast to him seems a long time
He find the weather warm and the climate far too dry
And the lifestyle of the Gold Coast he doesn't seem to enjoy.
Many young people who come to the Gold Coast in the Gold Coast do not stay
They only visit for awhile for the brief holiday
They work in the big cities where they are better paid
In Sydney and in Melbourne and in Perth and Adelaide.
The Gold Coast is for oldies though Jack may not agree
He doesn't like the sub tropics of South Queensland by the sea
And he doesn't lay in the palm tree shade like others do each day
He'd much prefer to live down south in Gippsland far away.
