The Lost Boy

They were in school together sixty years ago
He was a year or two younger than Joe
And the story of Tony his boyhood mate
Down at the local I heard him relate.

Eight years old Tony walked down the woodland track one day
Near to his home he had often walked that way
A perfect summer's day with a slight breeze
The sun shone bright and birds piped on the trees.

But young Tony he was never seen again
And the mystery of his disappearance still remain
A search party combed the countryside for miles around
Though not a trace of him was ever found.

For their only child the parents grieved for years
They must have shed a bucket full of tears
What happened to him did he meet with foul play?
Though any evidence did not point to that way.

What happened to him some venture to say
That aliens snatched him and carried him away
With them to their planet far beyond the sky
Where people never age or never die?

This little boy with brown eyes and brown hair
'Twould seem he vanished into the morning air
For not one even seemed to have a clue
What happened to him or where he had gone to?

And though it happened sixty years ago
The memory still remains fresh with Joe
Of his friend young Tony who walked down the woodland track
But never ever made the journey back.
