I'm In My Late Fifties

I'm in my late fifties my better days gone
And poorer than ever but I will live on
Till the reaper claims me whenever that will be
The one who claims everyone too will claim me.

I'm in my late fifties and long past my prime
And silly old me still addicted to rhyme
No fool like an old fool those words I recall
And my outlook in life has been described as small.

The more one know the less one know they know those words to me apply
And the longer you live the sooner you will die
A far wiser person than me once did say
That the price for some to karma is huge to pay.

One lie leads to another lie one might say how true
But is there one person who can say to you
Whilst once without blinking look you in the eye
And tell you he never once did tell a lie.

I'm in my late fifties and looking quite gray
And 'twould seem clear to all I've known a better day
And though I may not live to be a very old man
I will keep on living for as long as I can.
