The sunlit hills of Kongwak I see them in my dreams
Just one stop down from heaven's gate or so to me it seems
Down through the old brown paddock the creek is trickling slow
And the farm dam holds little water it has never been so low.
At late March in old Kongwak the hills look brown and dry
And there is not one rain cloud in the bright and sunny sky
There's not one drop of water in the dry roadside drain
This countryside could well do with a day of heavy rain.
In the sunshine of mid morning the stillness is profound
The warble of the magpie the only living sound
In the quiet hills of Kongwak one doesn't hear traffic noise
And around the wildflowers by the woodlet flit many white butterflies.
In the old brown hills of Kongwak mature trees are quite rare
And not much grass in the high paddocks they have never looked so bare
Yet Nature's rugged beauty is everywhere to see
In Kongwak in South Gippsland ten miles inland from the sea.
