A Winter Morning In Glen Iris

The sun is out and shining though a chill is in the air
And in the depths of Winter a morning such as this is rare
The traffic on the Freeway I hear it buzzing by
Such a noisy intrusion few if any enjoy.

A family of magpie larks are searching for insects on the ground
And starlings too out feeding they quickly move around
The football park in Glen Iris where wild living things abound
Near human habitation much wild life to be found.

And though the mynas are singing on the deciduous trees
The distinctive chill of Winter is in the morning breeze
And the rainbow lories chirping as above the park they fly
Towards the flowering gums and wattles by the Gardiner creek nearby,

A Winter's morning in Glen Iris in the reserve known as Burke road south
And the sky has clouded over though a half an hour ago the sun was out
And of the Melbourne weather so true what people say
One of Planet Earth's few places where you get four Seasons in one day.
