The hardest thing of all to say is the parting goodbye
To friends you never more may see before you travel far by sky
For to start a new life elsewhere far from your old Home-place
Where you were known by many and your's was a loved face
I've been through such an experience of such feelings I do know
I had to struggle to contain the tears that yearned to flow
Some of my past friends are with the dead and some aging and gray
And some like me from the old Hometown are living far away
It has been two decades and three years and that's going back many a Spring
Since in the stream by my old home I heard the dipper sing
The past has gone forever and only the memories of it do remain
And in my flights of fancy I walk the old fields again
And meet again my dear friends in my thoughts the years have not left them gray
I visualize them as they were they haven't aged a day.
