'Tis a steep hill to drive on or to walk up the hilly road to Knocknagree
And the old memories live on in my ageing memory
Of Sliabh Luachra's highest Village perched on the higher ground
With a great view of the mountains for miles and miles around.
Clara and Caherbarnagh and the immortal Paps of Shrone
The legend of the Goddess Anu in mythology is known
In Shrone near Rathmore she forever lay her breast pointing towards the sky
Legend has it that she gave birth to all of the hills nearby.
Perhaps the Village on the hill in time change has undergone
For time brings change to everywhere and time keeps ticking on
Us people are like the Seasons to life we come and go
And time it does bring changes to the faces we did know
But the view from the high Village it would not have changed at all
Despite the passing of the Seasons and the memory i recall
Of the landscape where Duhallow meets Sliabh Luachra and where Cork and Kerry meet
And of the high hills near Killarney that stretches onwards to Millstreet.
'Tis a steep hill to walk up or to drive on the high hill to Knocknagree
And from Sliabh Luachra's and Duhallow's highest Town or Village great beauty for to see
Of where North Cork meets East Kerry and fond memories i retain
Though i may never see the Village on the hill again.
