Brown and rugged Clara Mountain forever looking down
On Duhallow and Sliabh Luachra and the fields of Millstreet and Millstreet Town
From the het that grew between the bracken when the lark sang in the sky
We eat the blue ripened whortleberries on warm evenings in July.
Brown and rugged Clara Mountain can be seen from far and wide
Like a silent sentinel overlooking the green old countryside
An old Duhallow landmark that Duhallow people know
It has been around forever though the Seasons come and go
To the old fields and the boglands and the countryside for miles around
The old hill like a proud monarch stood on the higher ground
Long before to the old Country the first race of people came
It had been around for centuries an old hill without a name.
Brown and rugged Clara Mountain above the old fields rise
And in my flights of fancy i do often visualize
The music of the skylark and the babble of the rill
As it races to the river down the high fields by the hill.
