The cooings of the spotted neck doves comes from the trees nearby
A bird of gardens and parklands and of humans not that shy
Easy to recognize by song or voice and in their range never rare
Mostly seen in parks in City or in Country Towns though not seen everywhere
They build a flimsy nest of sticks on lower branch of tree
Lay two pale eggs and from the ground their nest not hard to see
Familiar in their dark spotted necks and mostly brown to gray
If you live in or near a southern town you see them every day,
The day is warm and humid with scarcely any breeze
And i can hear the spotted neck doves cooing on the nearby trees
You hear them once and their soft cooing in memory does remain
And them you are bound to recognize when you hear them again
They are quite common in their range their kind one often see
The social and gregarious spotted neck doves are familiar birds to me.
